What is cholestyramine light?
Chlorestyramine the use of light is used to reduce high cholesterol levels in the blood. Low-density lipoprotein, commonly referred to as the "bad cholesterol", plays an integral part of this equation. Cholestyramine light can also be used to treat itching due to a blockage of the bile canals in the gallbladder. Cholestyramine light can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.
Side effects of cholestyramine light

Cholestyramine light can cause serious side effects. If you experience:
- Constipation that is persistent or getting worse
- Severe stomach pain;
- Blood in urine
- Black, bloody, or tarry stool;
- Easy bruising and unusual bleeding
Older adults may experience more side effects, such as constipation.
Cholestyramine light can cause the following side effects:
- Mild diarrhoea
- Stomach pain, nausea, and loss of appetite
- Bloating or gas
- Itching of the tongue
- Itching or irritation in the area of your genital region

Before you take this drug
Cholestyramine light should not be used if:
- A blockage of your biliary system.
Inform your doctor immediately of any of the following issues:
- Chronic constipation
- A thyroid disorder
- Diabetes;
- Kidney disease
- Liver disease
- Coronary artery disease
This medicine contains phenylalanine. If you have phenylketonuria, talk to your doctor about using cholestyramine light. Cholestyramine light may make it more difficult for your body to absorb certain vitamins. Your doctor may suggest that you take a supplement. Notify your doctor immediately if you become pregnant or nursing. Vitamin supplements may be more important during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Be sure to follow your doctor's advice about taking vitamins during treatment with cholestyramine light.
How to take cholestyramine light?
Read all the instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow the directions. Sometimes, your doctor will change the dose. Your medication must be taken according to its recommended course and timing. Cholestyramine light can be taken as many as six times per day. Follow your doctor's instructions for dosage. Cholestyramine light powder can be mixed with water or any other non-carbonated drink. The powder can also be mixed with brothy soups, crushed pineapple, or applesauce. Use the scoop that came with your medication to measure the powder. Cholestyramine light should only be measured using the scoop provided with your medication. Cholestyramine light should be used regularly for maximum benefit. Refill your prescription before you run out. The surfaces of your teeth can be affected by cholestyramine. If you drink the cholestyramine/liquid mixture too slowly, it can cause tooth discoloration or enamel erosion. Brush your teeth regularly when using this medication. Take extra fluids while taking cholestyramine light to avoid constipation. You may need to have frequent blood tests while using cholestyramine light. Cholestyramine light may be part of a comprehensive treatment programme that includes diet, exercise, and weight management. You should closely monitor your diet, medications, and exercise regimens. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.
What happens if i miss the dose?
If you are almost due for your next dose, skip the missed one. Never take two doses of the same medicine at once.
What happens if i overdose?
Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention. Constipation or severe abdominal pain can be symptoms of an overdose.
What should be avoided?
Cholestyramine light should not be taken with other medications. You should wait at least one hour or four to six hours after you have taken cholestyramine light before taking any other medication.
Interaction with other drug
Inform your doctor of all the medications you are taking. Cholestyramine light can be affected by many drugs, including:
- Hormonal replacement therapy or birth control pills
- Digoxin (digitalis);
- A diuretic, or "water pill".
- Penicillin g
- Phenobarbital;
- Phenylbutazone;
- Propranolol;
- Spironolactone;
- Tetracycline;
- Thyroid medication such as levothyroxine
- Warfarin (coumadin, jantoven).
