What is Cefotan?

Cefotan (SEF) is a low-sporin antibacterial. Cefotan can be used to treat a wide range of bacteria-caused infections. Cefotan can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Cefotan

If you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction such as hives, difficulty breathing, facial or throat swelling and severe reactions on the skin (fever), please seek medical help immediately.or sore throat with burning eyes, skin irritation, blistering or peeling skin, or red or purple rash), seek emergency medical attention.

Cefotan may cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Severe stomach pain; bloody or watery diarrhoea (even months after the last dose);
  • Flu symptoms typically include fever, chills and body aches.
  • Pale skin, easy bruising, and unusual bleeding
  • A seizure;
  • Fever, weakness, confusion;
  • Dark-coloured urine jaundice
  • Kidney problems include little or no urination and swelling of the feet or ankles. You may also feel tired or short of breath.

Cefotan side effects may include:

  • Nausea, vomiting;
  • Diarrhoea;
  • Vaginal itching or discharge

Warnings

Cefotan should not be taken if you have an allergy to Cefotan or any other cephalosporin (Cefdinir, Cefalexin, Keflex, Omnicef, etc.).

Before you take this drug

Cefotan and other cephalosporins (cefdinir, cefalexin, and Keflex Omnicef) can cause an allergic reaction.

Inform your doctor immediately of any of the following issues:

  • An allergic reaction to any medication (especially penicillin);
  • Colitis is one example of an intestinal disorder.
  • Kidney disease is a serious condition.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing.

How to take Cefotan?

Read all instructions or guides that come with your medicine and follow all directions. Follow the directions on the label. Cefotan can be injected directly into the muscle or infused into the vein. You can learn how to use this medication properly by consulting a healthcare provider. Please read and comply with all instructions that accompany your medication, even if they seem obscure or confusing. If necessary, consult a pharmacist or physician if required for clarification of instructions.

Cefotan may need to be mixed with a liquid before use. Only use the diluent that your doctor recommends. You will need to take your medicine within a few hours or days after mixing it. The diluent you use and the way you store your mixture (at room temperature, in the refrigerator, or frozen) will determine how long it takes to mix. If you are using injections on your own, make sure that you know how to mix and store them. If you have any questions, ask your pharmacist.

If the medicine is cloudy, has changed colour, or contains particles, do not use it. For new medicine, call your pharmacist. Cefotan should be taken for the entire prescribed time period, even if symptoms improve quickly. You can get infections resistant to medications if you skip doses. Cefotan does not treat viruses such as the flu and the common cold. You may only receive one dose if you're receiving this medication before an operation in order to prevent infection. Blood tests may be required frequently.

Only use a needle or syringe once, and then store them in an "as sharps" container that is puncture-proof. Be sure to follow local or state laws on how to properly dispose of the container. Keep the container out of reach of pets and children. Cefotan can interfere with certain medical tests. Cefotan can affect the results of certain medical tests. Cefotan, unmixed, should be stored at room temperature away from moisture, light, and heat. Do not freeze. If you received your medicine in a frozen state or if it was frozen even after being mixed, defrost it in the refrigerator or at ambient temperature. Warm the medicine in a microwave oven or with boiling water. After use, do not refreeze your medicine.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are almost due for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Never take two doses of the same medicine at once.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.

What should be avoided?

If you drink alcohol within 72 hours of using Cefotan, it can cause side effects like headaches and sweating. Rapid heart rate. Antibiotics can cause diarrhea. This could be an indication of a new illness. Call your doctor if you have bloody or watery diarrhoea before taking anti-diarrhoea medication.

Interaction with other drug

Inform your doctor of all other medications you are taking, including any injected antibiotics. Cefotan can be affected by other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal remedies. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are taking and those that you stop or start using.
