What is Capron DMT?

Dextromethorphan works as a cough suppressant, and pyrilamine acts as an antihistamine. Capron DMT, also known as Capron, is a combination medication used to treat symptoms such as sneezing and itching caused by allergies or the common cold. Capron DMT does not treat coughs caused by emphysema or asthma. Capron DMT can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Capron DMT

When experiencing symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek medical assistance immediately: difficulty breathing, hives or facial and throat swelling.

Capron DMT may cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Anxiety or severe drowsiness.
  • Little or no urinating is acceptable.
  • A feeling of lightheadedness, as if you could pass out.

Capron DMT can cause the following side effects:

  • Drowsiness;
  • Nervousness
  • Feeling restless or excited, especially in children

Warnings

Capron DMT should not be used if you've taken an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days. Examples include isocarboxazid (linezolid), methylene blue (injection), phenelzine, or rasagiline.

Never use cough and cold medicine to put a very young child to sleep.

Before you take this drug

This medicine should not be used if you have an allergy to dextromethorphan, pyrilamine, or both.

You should not use Capron DMT after using an MAO inhibitor within the last 14 days. A dangerous drug interaction may occur. MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid (linezolid), methylene blue injection, phenelzine, and other drugs.

If you have had any of the following:

  • Chronic bronchitis and other breathing problems
  • Heart problems
  • Glaucoma;
  • A thyroid disorder
  • Diabetes
  • An enlarged prostrate can cause urination issues.

Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you're pregnant or nursing.

This medication may contain phenylalanine. If you suffer from phenylketonuria, carefully read and follow your medication label instructions. Consult a doctor prior to giving this medication to a child under 12 years of age.

How to take Capron DMT?

Follow the directions on the label or those prescribed by your physician. Cold and cough medicines should only be taken temporarily until symptoms have subsided. Follow the directions on the label when giving cough medicine or cold medicine. Do not give cough and cold medicines to put children to sleep.

Measuring liquid medicine is important. Use the provided dosing device or a dose-measuring tool (not a spoon). If your symptoms don't improve within 7 days, call your doctor. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

You may not have a schedule for dextromethrophan or pyrilamine, as they are used only when necessary.If it is almost time for your next dose, skip any that were missed and move onto taking them as scheduled.Never take two doses in one go.

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.

What should be avoided?

Alcohol consumption with Capron DMT may cause adverse effects. Before using any other cold or cough medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacist if they contain similar ingredients. Do not drive or engage in hazardous activities until you have determined how the medicine will affect you. You may be unable to react properly.

Interaction with other drug

Before using dextromethrophan or pyrilamine together with other medications, ask your doctor or pharmacist. This is especially important if you are taking any drugs that cause drowsiness, such as opioid medication, muscle relaxers, sleep medicines, or medicines for anxiety or seizures. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are currently taking and those that you have started or stopped using. Included are prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. This list does not include all possible interactions.
