What is Calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone?

Calcium and magnesium, which are both naturally occurring minerals, are used to treat acid reflux and upset stomachs. Simethicone helps gas bubbles in the stomach and intestines come together.Calcium carbonate and magnesium chloride are a combination of antacids and anti-gas medicines used to treat heartburn and other stomach problems caused by excessive eating.This medication guide may not list all the uses of calcium carbonate, magnesium chloride, or simethicone.

Before you take this drug

If you have had any of the following:

  • Kidney disease
  • You may need to restrict your magnesium intake if you have a certain condition.

Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you're pregnant or nursing.

This medicine should not be given to children younger than 12 without consulting a doctor.

How to take Calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone?

Follow the instructions on the label or those prescribed by your doctor.  Take calcium carbonate, magnesium hydrxide, and simethicone between meals or at bedtime as directed by your physician. Before measuring a dose, shake the medicine. Use the provided dosing device or a dose-measuring tool (not a spoon). This medicine should not be used for more than two weeks unless you have been told by your doctor to do so. If your symptoms don't improve or worsen, make an appointment to visit your physician as soon as possible. Store away from moisture or heat at room temperature.Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.

What happens if I miss the dose?

You may not have a schedule for your doses, as simethicone, calcium hydroxide, and magnesium hydroxide are used only when necessary.If it is almost time for your next dose, forgoing any missed ones would be best advised. Take no more than six doses within a 24-hour period.

What happens if I overdose?

Reach out immediately if a poison emergency arises by dialling 1-800-222-1222 for poison advice and seek medical help immediately.

What should be avoided?

Antiacids may make it more difficult for you to absorb any other medications that you take orally. Take calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide with simethicone. Before using antacids or stomach medicines that contain similar ingredients to magnesium hydroxide or calcium carbonate, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Interaction with other drug

Some antacids may make certain medications less effective by making it more difficult for the body to absorb them. Take all other medications 2 hours before, or 2 hours after, taking calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone. Other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal remedies, may also affect calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are currently taking and those that you have started or stopped using.
