What is Caladryl clear?

Caladryl clear, also known as "numbing medicine", is an anesthetic. Caladryl clear works by blocking pain signals from nerves to the brain. Caladryl clear is used for minor skin irritations and burns. Caladryl clear lotion can also be used to treat pain and skin irritations caused by coming into contact with poisonous ivy or poisonous oak.

Warnings

Caladryl clear lotion should be used exactly as instructed on the label or by your doctor. Use only the recommended amount. Do not exceed it. If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat. You may experience less serious side effects or none at all.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to pramoxine, do not use caladryl clar lotion. If you have an allergy to any drug or other numbing medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist whether it's safe to use caladryl. Caladryl clear is not known to harm an unborn child. If you are pregnant, do not take this medication without consulting your doctor. There is no way to know if pramoxine topically passes into breastmilk or if it can harm a baby who is nursing. If you are breastfeeding a child, do not take this medication without consulting a doctor.

How to take Caladryl clear?

Caladryl clear lotion should be used exactly as instructed on the label or by your doctor. Use only the recommended amount. Do not exceed it. Caladryl clear lotion can be applied 3–5 times daily, depending on the form you are using. You should follow the directions on the label or those of your doctor regarding how much and how often to apply this medication.Hands should be washed before and after using the lotion. Use warm water with mild soap to wash the affected area. Rinse the affected area and thoroughly dry it. Caladryl clear can be used on the skin by applying just enough lotion to cover the affected area. If your symptoms don't improve within 7 days or your condition gets better and then returns, call your doctor. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if i miss the dose?

Caladryl clear can be used as needed, so you won't miss a dose.

What happens if i overdose?

Contact 1-800-222-1222 immediately in case of poison exposure and seek immediate medical advice or services.

What should be avoided?

Avoid getting the medication in your nose or eyes. Rinse with water if this happens. Caladryl clear should not be used on large areas of skin, deep wounds, blistered or severe skin, or burns. If the skin irritation or injury is more severe, seek medical attention. Do not use other medications to treat the same areas that you have treated with caladryl unless you are told by your doctor.

Side effects of  Caladryl  clear

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat.

If you experience an adverse event such as:

  • Any new redness or swelling at the site of application;
  • The medicine can cause severe pain, burning, or stinging.

Details on dosage

Adult dose for pain:

Minor skin irritations and minor wounds can cause itching and pain.
Apply directly onto the affected area three or four times each day, at most.

Adult dose for pruritus:

Insect bites and minor skin irritations can cause itching and pain.
Apply directly onto the affected area no more than three to four times each day.

The usual paediatric dose for pain:

Insect bites and minor skin irritations can cause itching and pain.
Two years old or older
apply directly onto the affected area no more than three to four times each day.

Usual paediatric dose for pruritus:

Insect bites and minor skin irritations can cause itching and pain.
Two years old or older

Interaction with other drug

Pramoxine applied topically is unlikely to interact with other drugs that you may take orally or by injection. Many drugs interact with each other. Inform your doctor of all the medications you take, including over-the-counter and prescription drugs, vitamins and minerals, herbs, and other medicines prescribed by doctors. Tell your doctor immediately if you start taking any new medicine.
