What is Cal-gest?

Calcium is a naturally occurring mineral. Calcium is essential for the normal functioning of many body functions, including bone formation and maintenance. Cal-gest can be used to treat or prevent a calcium shortage. There are several brands and types of calcium carbonate. This leaflet does not list all brands. Cal-gest can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of  Cal-gest

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat.

Cal-gest may cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Little or no urinating is acceptable.
  • Rapid weight gain or swelling
  • High levels of calcium are accompanied by nausea, vomiting, constipation, muscle pain, fatigue, and confusion.

Before you take this drug

If you have had any of the following:

  • Kidney disease
  • Kidney stone
  • Cancer;
  • Parathyroid disorder;
  • High levels of calcium in the blood

If you are breastfeeding or pregnant, you may need a different dose.

How to take Cal-gest?

Do not exceed the recommended dosage or duration. Use the recommended dose and do not exceed it. Cal-gest products are labelled to indicate whether they should be taken in conjunction with food or not. Take the cal-gest tablet and drink a glass of water. Chew the chewable tablet before swallowing it. Before measuring an oral suspension dose, shake the liquid. Use either its provided dosing syringe, dose-measuring cup or spoon or contact your pharmacist if you don't already own such devices for dosing measurement. Cal-gest powder should be used as per the instructions. Consume the mixture after the powder has dissolved completely. Cal-gest is only one part of a comprehensive treatment programme that may also include dietary changes. Find out which foods contain calcium. You may need to adjust your cal-gest dosage as you change your diet. You should follow your doctor's advice. Store away from moisture or heat at room temperature. Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.

What happens if i miss the dose?

As soon as you recall taking an overdose, take it immediately. If it is close to being time for another scheduled dosage, simply skip overtaking by one. Do not attempt to compensate by increasing dosage - an accidental miss should only ever result in greater medication being required than usual.

What should be avoided?

Before taking cal-gest, consult your doctor or pharmacist about any other supplements you may be taking, such as multivitamins or mineral supplements.

Interaction with other drug

Calcium can interfere with the absorption of certain medications. Take other medicines at least two hours before or four or six hours after taking cal-gest. Calcium carbonate can interact with other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal remedies. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are currently taking and those that you have started or stopped using.
