What is Asciminib?
Asciminib can be used by adults to treat a form of blood cancer known as Philadelphia-positive chromosome chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML).Asciminib is typically prescribed when other treatments have not worked.Asciminib is also used for reasons not mentioned in this guideline.
Side effects of Asciminib
Seek medical attention immediately in the event that you exhibit symptoms or warning signs of an allergic response that include itching, rash, feeling faint or dizzy, fever, rapid heartbeat and breathing difficulties, andAn inflammation could occur anywhere on your lips, face, tongue or throat.
Asciminib could cause severe adverse effects. Consult your physician right away in the event that you experience:
- Heart-related issues: pain in your legs, arms, back, neck, or jaw. Numbness or weakness on the other or both sides of the body also, you may have problems with your vision or speech, dizziness, headaches, swelling in your feet, ankles, or chest, an irregular rhythm in your heartbeat, rapid weight gain, feeling sluggish, and stomach pains that are severe.
- High blood pressure—severe headache, blurred vision, pounding inside your neck or ear;
- Low blood cell counts, fever chills, fatigue, flu-like symptoms, skin sores, mouth sores, bruising that is easy or bleeding that is unusual, pale skin, cold feet and hands,
- Pancreas issues: sudden stomach pain, irritation, nausea, or vomiting.
Common adverse effects of asciminib could be:
- Cold symptoms like nasal stuffiness, sneezing, and a sore throat
- Bone, muscle, or joint discomfort;
- Tiredness;
- Nausea, diarrhoea;
- It can be a rash
- Blood tests that are abnormal.

Before you take this drug
Inform your doctor if you were ever diagnosed with:
- Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis) and
- Heart issues and blood clots.
It is possible that you will need to take an unfavourable pregnancy test prior to beginning this treatment.It could be more difficult to become pregnant when you are taking asciminib.Asciminib can harm a newborn baby. Use effective birth control when you use this medication and at least one week after the last dose. Inform your doctor immediately in case you fall pregnant.It is not recommended to nurse while taking this medicine, at least for a week following the last dose.
How to take Asciminib?
Follow the instructions on the prescription label and read the medication guide or instructions sheets. Your doctor may alter your dosage. Follow the medication precisely as directed.Eat without food.Take the tablet in one swallow, and don't crush, chew, or break it.Your blood must be analysed frequently.It is important to not stop taking asciminib until you've received the advice of your physician.Place it in a cool, dry place far from heat and moisture.
Details on dosage
Usual Adult Dose for Chronic Myelogenous Leukaemia:
Philadelphia Chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukaemia I chronic phase (Ph+ CML-CML-CP)
Ph+ CML-CP previously treated with 2 or more TKIs (tyrosine kinase inhibitors):
Dosage recommended: 80 mg orally every day or 40 mg in a single dose every twelve hours.
Time of treatment Keep going for as long as you observe clinical benefits or until toxicity becomes unacceptable.
Ph+ CML-CP containing CML-CP with T315I Mutation:
Dosage suggested: 200 mg taken orally every 12 hours.
Comments:
The medication is approved under an accelerated approval process based on a significant molecular response. Continuation of approval could be contingent on confirmation and a description of clinical benefits in confirmation trials.

Treatment of Ph+ CML in CP that has been treated previously by 2 or more tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs)
Treatment of Ph+ CML in CP by the T315I mutation
What happens if I miss the dose?
If you take asciminib at least once per day, take the medication as soon as you can. However, avoid your missed dose in case you exceed 12 hours behind on the dosage. Don't take two doses at once.If you take asciminib at least twice every day, take the medication as quickly as you can. However, avoid your missed dose in the event that you are more than six hours late to take the dosage. Don't take two doses at once.

What should be avoided?
Eat a light diet for at most 2 hours prior to and 1 hour after taking asciminib.
Interaction with other drug
There are times when it's not recommended to take certain medicines simultaneously. Certain medications can alter your blood levels from other medications you take, which could cause more side effects or make the medications less effective.Numerous drugs can impact asciminib. This includes over-the-counter and prescription medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements. There are not all the interactions mentioned here. Discuss with your physician all the other medications you take.
