What is Aredia?
Aredia is a bisphosphonate (bis FOS fo Nayt) medicine that affects the process of forming bone and reducing it within the body. It can reduce bone loss and could help prevent bone fractures.Aredia is a treatment for the disease of Paget's bones. Aredia can also be used to treat blood levels that are high in calcium and are caused by cancer (also known as hypercalcemia in cancer).Aredia can also be used to treat bone damage that is caused by certain kinds of cancer, like breast cancer or bone marrow cancer. Aredia does not treat cancer by itself.Aredia can also be prescribed for reasons not covered in this medication guide.
Side effects of Aredia
Contact a medical professional immediately. Get medical attention immediately if you notice symptoms that indicate an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of your lips, face, and throat.
Aredia could result in serious adverse reactions. Consult your physician immediately if you suffer from:
- Fever; high fever;
- New or unusual pain in your hips or thighs;
- A seizure;
- Kidney issues: little or no urine output; swelling of your ankles or feet; being fatigued or sluggish;
- Low potassium: leg cramps, constipation, irregular heartbeats, fluttering around your chest, thirst, or increased urine tingling or numbness, muscular weakness, a limp sensation,
- Low levels of calcium—muscle spasms or contractions, numbness, or sensation (around your mouth or even in your toes and fingers).
Common adverse effects of aredia could include:
- Fever, headache;
- Bone pain;
- Elevated blood pressure
- Nausea, vomiting;
- Low levels of calcium or phosphate low levels of calcium or phosphate
- Inflammation, redness, pain, or a lump that is hard beneath your skin, around an iv needle.

Warnings
Aredia could harm a newborn baby. Avoid getting pregnant with Aredia, and inform your doctor in case you fall pregnant.Contact your physician if you are experiencing muscle spasms, the sensation of tingling or numbness (in your feet and hands or around your mouth), as well as unusual or new hip pain, minimal or no urination, or an increase in swelling on your lower limbs.
Before you take this drug
Do not take this medication if you're sensitive to mannitol or any bisphosphonate (alendronate, etidronate, Aredia, risedronate, and zoledronic acid).
To be sure Aredia is suitable for you, ask your doctor if you previously had:
- The imbalance of electrolytes (such as low concentrations of magnesium, potassium, or magnesium in the blood);
- Kidney disease;
- Liver disease
- It could be a dental issue (you might require an examination of your teeth before receiving aredia).
In rare instances, the medicine can cause bone loss (osteonecrosis) in the jaw. Signs of this include jaw pain, swelling or red gums, loose teeth, or a slow healing process after dental treatment. How to take Aredia?
Follow the directions on the prescription label. Avoid using Aredia in smaller or larger quantities or for a longer period than the recommended time.Aredia is administered into veins via an IV. You might be taught how to administer an IV at your own home. Do not inject yourself with this medication if you do not know how to apply the injection properly, and eliminate IV tubing, needles, and any other devices that are used.This medication should be administered slowly, and the infusion may take between 2 and 24 hours to be completed.Aredia can be given in one dose, only once. It could also be re-infused over three days or administered every 3–4 weeks. The frequency at which you get this medication and the duration of your infusion will depend on the reason you're using this medicine. Follow the instructions of your physician.
Aredia is a medicine in powder form that needs to be mixed with liquid (diluent) prior to use. If you're taking medicine at home, make certain you are aware of how to prepare and maintain the medication.Do not mix Aredia with any solution that is calcium-rich (such as the lactated solution of Ringer's) or with other medications within the same container or on the same line.The kidney function of your patient could require checking when you are using Aredia.Be sure to pay attention to your oral hygiene when using Aredia. Cleanse and brush your teeth frequently. If you require any dental procedure (especially surgery), be sure to inform your dentist beforehand that you're using this medication.Aredia is only a part of a full programme of treatment, which may also include changes to your diet and taking vitamin and calcium supplements. Follow the instructions of your doctor precisely.Aredia should be stored. Aredia is within the room at a temperature away from heat and moisture. Mixed medicine should be consumed within 24 hours.The single-use bottle (bottle) of this medication is only for one usage. It is discarded after one time, even if there's still medicine inside.Make use of an empty needle and syringe just once. Be sure to follow any local or state laws regarding disposing of needles and syringes that are no longer in use. Interaction with other drug
Aredia may harm your kidneys. The risk is increased if you are also taking certain medications, such as chemotherapy, antivirals, injected antibiotics, medicines for bowel problems, medication to stop rejection of organ transplants, injection-able osteoporosis medications, as well as some arthritis or pain medications (including aspirin, Tylenol, Advil, and Aleve).Other medications can interfere with pamidronate.These include prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Inform your physician about all your medications currently used and any medication you begin or stop taking.
