What is anaplex DM?

Brompheniramine is an antihistamine. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant.Anaplex DM is a combination medicine used to treat coughs, runny or stuffy noses, sneezing, and watery eyes caused by allergies or the common cold.Anaplex DM may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Side effects of Anaplex DM

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

This medicine may cause serious side effects. Stop taking this medicine immediately and contact your physician if:

  • Hallucinations;
  • A seizure;
  • Painful or difficult urination;
  • Do you experience lightheadedness, feeling as if you could faint?
  • Fast or pounding heartbeats;
  • Pale skin, weakness, easy bruising or bleeding, fever, chills, body aches,
  • Be wary if your headache, blurry vision, or neck or ear pain becomes severe enough that pounding occurs in either of those locations.

Common side effects of anaplex dm may include:

  • Dizziness, drowsiness;
  • Coughing up thick mucus;
  • Feeling restless or excited (especially in children);
  • Dry mouth, nose, or throat.

Warnings

Use only as directed.Tell your doctor if you use other medicines or have medical conditions or allergies that require special consideration.

Before you take this drug

You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to brompheniramine, dextromethorphan, or pseudoephedrine, or if you have:

  • Severe high bloo d pressure;
  • Severe coronary artery disease (clogged arteries).

Do not take anaplex dm within 14 days if you have taken an mao inhibitor. A dangerous drug interaction could occur. Mao inhibitors include isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, and tranylcypromine.

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • Asthma or copd (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease);
  • Coughing that produces mucus or is caused by smoking, asthma or emphysema;
  • A blockage in your digestive tract (stomach or intestines);
  • A bladder obstruction or other urination problems;
  • High blood pressure, heart disease;
  • Glaucoma;
  • Diabetes;
  • Overactive thyroid.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant.Do not breastfeed.

How to take Anaplex DM?

Keep your prescription label fully compliant, read any medication guides or instruction sheets provided and adhere to their recommendations. Use the medicine exactly as directed.Follow all directions when giving this medicine to a child. Do not give medicine to a child to make them sleep. Misuse may result in death for extremely young children.Measure liquid medication using the measuring device provided (not a kitchen spoon).Call your physician if your symptoms don't improve after seven days or if fever, rash, or headaches persist.If you need surgery or medical tests, tell the doctor ahead of time if you have taken this medicine within the past few days.Store tightly closed at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.Detailed Anaplex DM dosage information

What happens if I miss the dose?

Anaplex DM is used when needed. If you are on a dosing schedule, skip any missed doses. Do not use two doses at one time.Do not take more than six doses in 24 hours.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222.Overdose symptoms may include feeling depressed or restless, fast or irregular heartbeats, severe drowsiness, loss of coordination, or seizures.

What should be avoided?

Ask a doctor or pharmacist before taking other cough or cold medicines that may contain similar ingredients.Avoid driving or hazardous activities until you know how this medicine will affect you. Your reactions could be impaired Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated during exercise or in hot weather. This medicine can decrease sweating, and you may be more susceptible to heat stroke.Drinking alcohol with this medicine can cause side effects.

Interaction with other drugs

Ask a doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicines that can cause drowsiness (such as opioid medication, sleep medicine, a muscle relaxer, or medicine for anxiety or seizures).
