What is Pharbetol?
Pharbetol can be used to decrease the severity of fever and reduce minor pain that is caused by illnesses such as colds, the flu, headaches, muscle aches, arthritis, and menstrual cramps. Pharbetol is also used for reasons not mentioned in this guideline.
Side effects of Pharbetol

In rare instances, pharbetol may cause a severe skin reaction that can cause death, regardless of whether you have taken this medication previously and experienced no reaction. Do not take Pharbetol, and contact your physician immediately if you notice the appearance of a skin rash or redness that spreads, causing blisters or peeling.
Do not take Pharbetol, and contact your doctor immediately when you notice indications of liver problems.
- Stomach discomfort (upper right);
- Loss of appetite
- Tiredness, itching;
- Dark urine, stools that are clay-colored, and
- Jaundice (yellowing of the eyes or skin).
More minor side effects might be more likely, or there may be no side effects whatsoever.

Warnings
A high dose of acetaminophen can harm your liver and even cause death. Contact your doctor immediately. If you experience stomach nausea, vomiting, and dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the eyes or skin). Do not take this medication and seek medical attention in the event of the appearance of a redness on your skin or a red, blistering rash.
Before taking this medication
It is not recommended to use Pharbetol if you have an allergy to it or if you are taking other medicines that contain this drug. Consult a physician or pharmacist to determine if Pharbetol is suitable for you in the event that you've had the condition of cirrhosis that affects the liver or if you consume regularly. Consult a physician before using this medication if you are nursing or pregnant.
How to take Pharbetol?

- Teenagers and adults who are aged 12 or older don't take more than 1,000 milligrams (mg) at once and more than 4000 mg over 24 hours.
- Children under 12 years old: older: Do not consume more than 5 doses of children's formula Pharbetol within a 24-hour period.
Don't give extra-strength Pharbetol to children older than 12 without a doctor's advice.
The dose for children is determined by the weight and age of the child. Be sure to follow the dosing instructions that come with this medication. Talk to your doctor prior to giving this medication to children less than 2 years old. Pharbetol is a product for infants and comes with a separate dropper of medicine or an oral syringe. Dosing with the wrong instrument could result in an overdose. Only use the dosing device that is provided to determine the dosage for your infant. Pharbetol is available in various types, such as capsules, liquid tablets that are chewable, disintegrating and dissolving powders, or granules. Take note of and adhere to any instructions for use that come with your prescription. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor for help.
Take a break from Pharbetol and contact your doctor if:
- You still suffer from a painful throat after two days of use.
- You still experience an infection after three days.
- You still experience discomfort after 7 days (or 5 days if you are treating an infant);
- If you suffer from an itch, you may have a rash or headache that continues for a long time, nausea, vomiting, or swelling.

The use of phthaletol could result in false results when using some test results with certain blood sugar monitors. If you suffer from diabetes, consult your physician regarding the best method to track the levels of your blood sugar while taking this medication.
Place it in a cool, dry place far from moisture and heat.
Do I be concerned if I miss a dose?
Pharbetol is used for when it is needed. If you're following a prescribed dosage schedule, do not miss any doses. Do not take two doses at once.

Get medical attention immediately, or contact us for help at the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222. Overdoses can lead to death. The symptoms of an overdose include vomiting, stomach pain, and yellowing of your eyes or skin.
What should be avoided?
Do not use other medications that contain pharbetol. Beware of drinking alcohol.

Other medications can affect Pharbetol. Other medications can affect Pharbetol, such as prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Discuss with your doctor all the other medications you take.
