What is Xopenex Concentrate?

Levalbuterol Levalbuterol is an anti-bronchodilator with short-acting effects that relaxes the muscles of the airways and improves the flow of air to the lungs.

Xopenex Concentrate can be used to treat or stop the occurrence of asthma attacks among adults as well as children as young as 4 years old.

Xopenex concentrate can also be used to treat conditions not mentioned in this medication guide.

Side effects of Xopenex Concentrate

See a doctor immediately. Get medical attention immediately if you notice symptoms that are warning signs of an allergic response, such as hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of your lips, face, or tongue.

Xopenex concentrate could cause severe adverse effects. Consult your physician immediately in the event that you experience:

  • Wheezing, choking, or breathing issues following the use of Xopenex Concentrate
  • Beats of your heart, or the sound of fluttering your chest
  • Worsening asthma symptoms;
  • Low potassium: leg cramps, constipation, irregular heartbeats, fluttering around your chest, intense thirst, frequent urination, tenderness or tingling in your muscles, weakness, or a feeling of limpness

Common negative results of Xopenex Concentrate include:

  • Dizziness, nervousness, and tremors;
  • Runny nose, sore throat;
  • Chest tension or tightness; irregular heartbeats;
  • Discomfort

Before you take this drug

It is not recommended to make use of Xopenex Concentrate if you are allergic to levalbuterol or albuterol (Accuneb, ProAir, Proventil, or Ventolin).

To ensure that levalbuterol is suitable for you, inform your physician if you suffer from:

How to take Xopenex Concentrate?

Follow the directions on the prescription label. Do not take this medication in greater or lesser amounts or for a longer time than prescribed.

Check all information about your patient, such as medication guides and instructions provided to you. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor about any additional concerns.

Every child who uses Xopenex Concentrate should be watched by an adult during the use of this drug.

Inhaler devices should be primed prior to the first time you use them. Spray four test sprays in the air off your face. Shake the inhaler at least 5 seconds prior to each spray. Re-prime the inhaler if it has not been used for more than 3 days.

Inhaler use:

  • Shake the container vigorously prior to each spray.
  • Cap the mouthpiece of your inhaler. Breathe deeply. Place the mouthpiece in your mouth, and then close your lips. Inhale slowly, and then push into the mouthpiece. Keep the breath for 10 minutes, and then take a deep breath and exhale slowly.
  • If you are using several inhalations at the same time, you should wait at least one minute before taking the second one and shake the inhaler once more.
  • Make sure your inhaler is dry and clean, and keep it in a safe place by putting the cap on the mouthpiece. Clean your inhaler every week by taking the canister off and placing the mouthpiece in running warm water for a minimum of 30 minutes. Shake the excess water out and let the components dry completely before attaching the inhaler.

  • Attach the face mask or mouthpiece. Then, attach the chamber for drugs to the compressor.
  • Relax and sit upright in a comfortable place. Put the mouthpiece in your mouth or wear the face mask that covers your mouth and nose. Switch on the compressor.
  • Breathe slowly and slowly until no further mist has been created by the nebulizer and the chamber of the drug is empty.
  • Clean the nebulizer after every use. Follow the cleaning instructions on the nebulizer's packaging.

Nebulizers should not be used as a solution if it doesn't appear clean and non-coloured.

Keep the levalbuterol concentrate vials in the packaging at room temperature and away from heat, moisture, and light. What happens if I miss a dose?

Utilise the dose you missed when you remember. Avoid any missed doses if you are nearing the time for the next dose. Avoid using any other medicine to substitute for your missed dosage.

Interaction with other drugs

Discuss with your physician if you have taken an MAO inhibitor within the last 14 days. MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid, the linezolid drug, Methylene Blue injection, rasagiline, phenelzine, and tranylcypromine, among others.

Discuss with your physician your current medications and all the ones you are about to start or stop taking, particularly:

  • Any other inhaled medication used to manage asthma and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder);
  • An antidepressant
  • Diuretic, also known as "water pill";
  • Medication for treating a heart problem
