What is Zerviate?
Zerviate (for the eyes) is used to treat itchy eyes due to allergies.Cetirizine is intended for use by children and adults aged 2 or more years.Zerviate is not recommended to treat eye irritation due to wearing contact lenses.Zerviate can also be employed for other purposes that are not covered in this guideline.
Side effects of Zerviate
See a doctor immediately. If you are experiencing symptoms that indicate an allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling of your lips, face, or tongue,
Common negative side effects of Zerviate include:
- Eye pain following the application of drops to the eye;
- Eye redness,
- Diminished vision.

Before you take this drug
Cetirizine is not a drug that is approved for use by children less than 2 years old.

How to take Zerviate?
Follow all instructions on the prescription label and go through all medication guides or instructions. Follow the medication exactly as prescribed.Avoid using contact lenses that are soft. Zerviate's preservation agent may permanently stain your lenses. Take the medication at least 10 minutes prior to inserting your contact lenses.
Cleanse your hands prior to using eye medications.For applying the eye drops, tilt your head back slightly, then pull down your lower eyelids to create an eyelid pocket. Then, hold the dropper over the eye and squeeze the drop into the pocket. Keep your eyes closed for about one or two minutes.Only use the number of drops that your doctor has recommended.
Don't touch the tip of your eyedropper or put it directly in your eyes. Drops that are contaminated can cause eye infections, which could result in severe vision issues.Keep the medicine. The medicine should be kept is at room temperatures, far from moisture and heat. Place each single-use container into the original pouch made of foil until you are prepared to use the medication.The single-use containers are designed for only one use for both eyes. The container should be disposed of after a single use, regardless of whether there's still medicine in it.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Take the medication as quickly as you are able, but do not miss your missed dose if it's close to the time for the next dose. Do not take two doses at once.
What happens if I overdose?
Cetirizine overdoses are not considered a risk. You should seek medical attention in an emergency or contact the Poison Helpline at 1-800-222-1222 if you have accidentally swallowed the medication.
What should be avoided?
Avoid wearing contact lenses if you're eyes appear red.
Interaction with other drugs
The eye medicine will not be affected by any other medications you take. However, many medications can interact with each other. Be sure to inform your health care providers about the medications you are taking, which include prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies.
