What is Voxelotor?
Voxelotor can be used to treat sickle cell diseases in children and adults who are at least 4 years old. Voxelotor can be used in conjunction with another medication called hydroxyurea. Voxelotor can also be employed for other purposes that are not covered in this guideline.
Side effects of Voxelotor

Common adverse effects of voxelotor could include:

Before you start taking this medicine
Voxelotor is not a good choice if you have an allergy to it.
Inform your doctor if you were ever diagnosed with:
- Liver issues.
It is unknown whether voxelotor could harm a newborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are expecting or planning to be pregnant. Don't breastfeed when using voxelotor and for a minimum of two weeks following your last dose.
How to take Voxelotor?
Follow the directions on the prescription label and go through all medication guides or instructions. Your doctor may alter the dosage. Make sure you take the medication precisely as prescribed. It is possible to take voxelotor at least daily, without or with meals. Tablets Take the tablet in its entirety and don't chew, crush, or break it.
Tablets to mix with oral suspension: Mix the tablets to make oral suspension in a room-temperature clear liquid like clear soda, water, or apple juice. clear electrolyte drinks, clear-flavoured drinks, or clear sports drinks prior to drinking them. Don't swallow the whole tablet; break, crush, or chew it to make oral suspension. Your dosage requirements can change if you switch to a new brand, strength, or formulation of this medication. Voxelotor may influence the results of specific blood tests. Be sure to inform any doctor who treats you that you're taking Voxelotor.
You shouldn't stop taking Voxelotor unless you have a doctor's recommendation. Keep the tablets at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Store the tablets in the original container and in the packaging or canister of preservative that absorbs moisture.

Usual Adult Dose for Sickle Cell Anaemia:
1500 mg taken orally, once a day

Usual Paediatric Dose for Sickle Cell Anaemia:
From 4 to 12 years old: Weight 10 to less than 20kg: 600 mg every day
Weight between 20 and 40kg: 900 mg taken orally every day
Weight: 40 kg or more 1500 mg orally every day
12 years old or over: 1500 mg taken orally at least once per day.
Comment:
The drug is available with or without the hydroxyurea.
Use: To treat sickle cell disease in patients who are 4 years old or older.
What happens If I miss a dose?
Don't miss the dose you missed, and take your next dose at your regular time. Do not take two doses at the same time.

What should be avoided?
Follow the doctor's advice regarding any limitations on foods, drinks, or activities.
Interaction with other drugs
Inform your doctor about all the medications you take. Numerous medications can interact with voxelator. particularly:
- Phenobarbital or any other barbiturate medication;
- John's wort;
- An antibiotic—rifabutin, rifampin, or rifapentine;
- Cancer medicine—apalutamide, enzalutamide, and mitotane;
- HIV or AIDS medicine—efavirenz, nevirapine;
- Seizure medicine—carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenytoin, primidone; or
- Steroid medicine—dexamethasone, prednisone.
