What is Metyrosine?

Side effects of Metyrosine

Symptoms of allergy reactions may include difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in lips, face, throat or tongue and difficulty swallowing. Seek immediate medical care.

Metyrosine can cause severe side effects. If you experience:

  • Confusion, hallucinations;

  • Muscle spasms or tremors.

Before you take this drug

Metyrosine should be avoided if it is an allergen. Metyrosine should not be used by children younger than 12.

How to take Metyrosine?

Be sure to carefully read and follow all instructions or guides included with your medication, as your dose may change periodically. Also inform all healthcare providers who treat you of your usage; heat or moisture could damage it over time so store at room temperature to protect from withdrawal symptoms which include difficulty sleeping and increased alertness for two to three days post cessation of metyrosine use.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If it is nearly time for your next dose, just skip the one you missed and wait a bit before taking another dose at once. Never exceed one dosage at any one time.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 immediately if you suspect poisoning and require immediate medical treatment. The symptoms of an overdose include anxiety, depressive disorder, agitation, and dryness. Other signs may be diarrhea, shaking, or tremors, as well as tightness or tremors in the jaw.

What should be avoided?
