What is Menthac Arthritis Cream with Capsaicin?

Capsaicin, the active ingredient found in chili peppers that gives them their heat, can also be found in creams and lotions used to treat muscle and joint discomfort. Capsaicin produces an effect similar to heat when applied topically, activating certain nerve cells in the body and decreasing levels of substance P - an analgesic chemical which acts as a messenger of pain. This cream is designed to temporarily ease muscle and joint pain from sprains or strains, arthritis treatment or herpes zoster. Additionally, this medication may also be beneficial in relieving neuralgia associated with herpes zoster. Qutenza is a topical capsaicin solution available with valid prescription from healthcare professionals for topical application. Qutenza can be used to treat pain from herpes and nerve pain (peripheral neuropathy), as well as nerve pain in feet in patients with diabetes.
