What is Gelusil?
Gelusil, a combination of medicines, is used to treat acid reflux, upset stomachs, and stomach discomfort due to gas. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Gelusil.
Side effects of Gelusil
If you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, hives or any swelling on the face, lips or throat - seek medical assistance immediately!
This medicine can cause serious side effects. If you experience:
- Bone pain and muscle weakness
- Confusion, changes to mental state and seizure (convulsions); these could all indicate serious conditions.
- Pale skin, feeling lightheaded or short-breath, rapid heartbeat

Warnings
It can also make it more difficult for you to absorb certain antibiotics. Take no other medication within 2 hours of taking Gelusil.
Before you take this drug
This medicine should not be used if you have an allergy to aluminum hydroxide or magnesium hydroxide.
If you suffer from:
- Kidney disease
- If you're on a diet low in magnesium,
Before taking this medication if you are pregnant or nursing, consult with a healthcare provider first. This medicine should not be given to children younger than 12 without consulting a doctor.
How to take Gelusil?
Follow all instructions outlined on your prescription label or given by your healthcare provider. The chewable tablet must be chewed before it can be swallowed. Before measuring a dose, shake the suspension. Use the provided dosing cup or a dose-measuring tool (not a spoon). Take no more than the recommended maximum dose on the label. This medicine should not be taken at the maximum dose for more than two weeks. An antacid will usually be taken until the symptoms are gone. If your symptoms don't improve after 2 weeks, call your doctor. Store away from moisture or heat at room temperature. Liquid medicines should not be allowed to freeze.
What happens if I miss the dose?
Gelusil can be used as needed, and there is no set schedule.If it is almost time for your next dose, skip any missed dosage.Never take two doses in one go.
What happens if I overdose?
Call 1-800-222-1222 immediately if you suspect being exposed to toxic materials, or seek immediate medical care.
What should be avoided?
Gelusil can interfere with the absorption of other medications, including certain antibiotics. Gelusil should not be taken within 2 hours of another medicine.
Interaction with other drug
Gelusil may be affected by other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal products. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are taking and those that you stop or start using.
