Gaviscon Additional Strength is an antiacid that can lower stomach acidity. Gaviscon Extra Strength is a combination medication that treats acid reflux, a sour stomach, or an upset stomach. Gaviscon Extra Strength can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.
Side effects of Gaviscon Extra Strength
If you exhibit symptoms indicative of an allergic reaction, including: hives, difficulty breathing and facial, lip or throat swelling - seek medical assistance immediately! Some of the more prevalent side effects may include diarrhea. There may be additional adverse side effects. How to take Gaviscon Extra Strength?
Follow all instructions found on your label or as directed by your healthcare provider. Before measuring a dose, shake the liquid oral suspension. Use the provided dosing device or a dose-measuring tool (not a spoon). The chewable tablet must be chewed before swallowing. Drink about 4 ounces (or other liquid) of water. Take no more than 16 chewable tablets in a 24-hour period. Take no more than 16 teaspoons or 8 tablespoons of liquid "extra strength" in 24 hours. If your symptoms don't improve or you experience acid reflux more than twice a week, call your doctor. You should not take this medication for more than 2 weeks unless you are told by your doctor to do so. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.
What happens if I miss the dose?
Gaviscon Extra Strength is taken as needed, and there may not be a schedule. If it is almost time to take your next dose, skip any missed doses. Never take two doses in one go.

Contact 1-800-222-1222 immediately in case of poisoning and seek immediate medical advice.
What should be avoided?
Before taking Gaviscon Extra Strength, ask your doctor or pharmacist if you regularly take other medications. Gaviscon can interfere with the absorption of other medications you take orally.
