What is Doc-Q-Lace?

Doc-Q Lace is a stool softener. It softens bowel movements and makes them easier to pass. Doc-Q Lace is used for occasional constipation. Doc-Q Lace is used to relieve pain and rectal damage due to hard stools or straining during bowel movements.

Warnings

Doc-Q Lace should not be used if your intestines are blocked. Doc-Q-Lace should not be used if you have severe stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting. Do not use mineral oil with Doc-Q Lace.

Before you take this drug

Doc-Q Lace should not be used if:

  • nausea, vomiting, or severe stomach pain;
  • A blockage of your intestines
  • Chronic stomach pain was not checked by your doctor.

Do not use Doc-Q Lace if you are taking mineral oils.

Docusate sodium is not recommended for everyone.

  • If you're on a diet low in salt,
  • If you've recently experienced a sudden and lasting change in your bowel habit, this should last for more than two weeks.

Docusate sodium is not known to harm unborn babies. If you are pregnant, do not use Doc Q-Lace unless your doctor has prescribed it. Docusate sodium is not known to pass into breast milk. It's also unknown if it can harm a baby who is nursing. If you are breastfeeding a child, do not take this medication without consulting your doctor. This medicine should not be given to children younger than six years of age without consulting a doctor.

How to take Doc-Q Lace?

Use Doc-Q Lace exactly as directed by the label or your doctor. Use only the recommended dosage. Do not exceed it. This medicine should be taken with water. While taking Doc-Q Lace, drink plenty of fluids. Do not open, chew, or break a softgel capsule Doc-Q-Lace. Swallow the capsule in its entirety. You should be able to have a bowel motion within 12 to 72 hours. Do not use Doc-Q Lace for more than 7 days unless your doctor has told you to. Contact your doctor immediately if symptoms don't improve or if there hasn't been a bowel motion in 1 to 3 days. A stool softener used excessively can cause serious medical issues. Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture to preserve its quality and durability.

Details on dosage

Adult dose for constipation:
Oral: 50–400 mg administered orally in one to four equal, divided doses per day.
Usual pediatric dose for constipation:
Oral:
If you are under 3 years old, divide 10–40 mg into 1–4 doses.
From 3 to 6 years old: 20–60 mg divided into 1–4 doses.
Children aged 6–12 years: 40–150 mg, divided into 1–4 doses.
If you are older than 12 years old, 50–400 mg orally are divided into 1–4 equal doses per day (using any salt form).

What happens if I miss the dose?

Since Doc-Q-Lace should only be taken when necessary, its dose should only ever be missed once or twice on any regular schedule. When taking missed doses on schedule, take them immediately upon realizing. If the next scheduled dosing time approaches soon after the missed one was forgotten about. Don't take extra medicine in an attempt to make up for missed ones - taking extra won't solve anything!

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an overdose include nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain.

What should be avoided?

Use only if your doctor tells you to.

Side effects of Doc-Q-Lace

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat.

If you experience any of the following symptoms, stop using Doc-Q Lace and contact your doctor immediately.

  • If you feel your heart pounding or fluttering, then it is time to seek medical attention.
  • Feeling dizzy as though they could faint is one of the hallmarks of lightheadedness.
  • Rectal bleeding or irritation
  • Numbness around the rectum or a rash
  • Vomiting, severe diarrhea, or stomach cramps
  • Continued constipation, or no bowel movement.

Some of the common side effects of Doc-Q-Lace include:

  • Dizziness, weakness;
  • Gas, mild diarrhea;
  • Rectal irritation;

Interaction with other drug
