What is Divigel 1.25 mg/packet?

Divigel (for the skin), 1.25 mg/packet, is used to treat some symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness. This medication guide does not list all possible uses for Divigel 1.25 mg/packet.

Side effects of Divigel 1.25 mg/packet

In case of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical assistance: hives, difficulty breathing and swelling in lips, face, tongue or throat are symptoms to watch out for.

Divigel 1.25 mg/packet may cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Heart attack symptoms: chest pain or pressure; pain spreading into your jaw or shoulder; nausea and sweating.
  • Signs of a blood clot: sudden numbness, weakness, vision loss, slurred or shaky speech, chest pain with stabbing pain, blood in the cough, or pain or warmth on one or both legs.
  • You may experience nausea, vomiting, or severe abdominal pain that spreads to your back.
  • Jaundice refers to an abnormal yellowing of both skin and eyes.
  • Memory problems, confusion, and unusual behavior
  • Unusual vaginal bleeding and pelvic pain
  • A lump on your breast
  • High calcium levels can cause confusion, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and a loss of appetite.

Topical estrogen can be absorbed by a child's skin when Divigel 1.25 mg/packet is in contact with it. Contact your doctor immediately if you notice a child with swollen breasts or nipples.

Some of the most common side effects associated with Divigel 1.25 mg/packet include:

  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps;
  • Bloating, swelling, and weight gain
  • Breast pain or tenderness
  • Headache;
  • Breakthrough bleeding, vaginal itching, discharge, or changes in your period
  • Hair loss on the scalp
  • Cold symptoms like a stuffy nose and sneezing.

Warnings

Do not take this medication if: you are suffering from undiagnosed vaginal bleeds; you suffer from liver disease; if bleeding is a problem, you're at increased risk of blood clots; or you've had a previous heart attack, stroke, blood clot, or cancer in the breast, uterus/cervix, or vagina. Do not use it if you are pregnant. Estradiol can increase your risk of uterine carcinoma. Do not ignore any abnormal vaginal bleeding. This medicine increases your risk of developing blood clots or other health problems, such as stroke, cancer of the uterus or breast, and cancer of the ovaries or breast. Estradiol is not recommended for the prevention of heart disease or stroke. Divigel 1,25 mg/packet can cause side effects in children who come into contact with the skin to which you have applied it.

Before you take this drug

Estradiol should not be used if:

  • Unusual vaginal bleeding not checked by a physician;
  • Liver disease
  • A history of a heart attack or stroke;
  • An increased risk of blood clots as a result of a heart condition or hereditary blood disorder
  • A history of cancers of the breast, uterus, cervix, or vagina

Do not use estradiol while pregnant. Inform your doctor immediately if a pregnancy occurs during treatment. Estradiol use can increase the risk of stroke or heart attack. If you have diabetes or high cholesterol and are overweight, you may be at greater risk. Divigel 1.25 mg/packet is not recommended for the prevention of heart disease, stroke, or dementia. Divigel 1.25 mg/packet can actually increase your chances of developing heart disease, stroke, or dementia.

Inform your doctor immediately of any of the following:

  • Heart disease
  • If you are pregnant or taking hormones, it can cause liver damage or jaundice.
  • Kidney disease
  • Gallbladder Disease
  • Asthma;
  • Epilepsy or another seizure disorder
  • Migraines;
  • Lupus;
  • Endometriosis or uterine fibroid tumors;
  • Hereditary agioedema
  • Porphyria is a genetic disorder of the enzymes that can cause symptoms in the skin and nervous system.
  • A thyroid disorder,
  • High levels of calcium in the blood

Estradiol can increase the risk of breast, uterine, and ovarian cancer. Speak to your doctor about the risk. Estradiol can lower the hormone required to produce breastmilk and slow down breastmilk production. Inform your doctor if breastfeeding is a part of your lifestyle.

How to take Divigel 12.5 mg/packet?

Read and follow all instructions that accompany your medication, such as any guides that come with the pack or label instructions. Take your medication at approximately the same time each day. Doing this ensures your safety. Please read and follow all instructions for use that come with your medication. If you don't understand the instructions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. After applying the medication, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water. Don't let anyone else get the medicine on their skin. If this occurs, thoroughly wash the affected area with soap and warm water. Divigel 1.25 mg/packet should not be applied to the skin of a child. Topical esteradiol can be absorbed through the surface of the skin, causing premature puberty for a child that comes into contact with the medicine. Cover the treated area with clothing to prevent others from coming into contact. You may have to temporarily stop taking this medication if you are going to be undergoing major surgery or if you will need long-term bedrest. You should let any doctor or surgeon that treats you know you're using estradiol. Estradiol can increase your risk of developing a condition that could lead to uterine carcinoma. Your doctor may prescribe progesterone to help reduce this risk. Any unusual vaginal bleeding should be reported immediately. You should have your doctor check on you regularly to see if this treatment is still appropriate. Divigel 1.25 mg/packet should be used in conjunction with a monthly self-examination of your breasts to check for lumps. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature. Divigel, 1.25 mg/packet, is flammable. Keep away from open flames or high heat. Smoke only after the medication has dried completely on your skin.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you miss a dose, take it immediately; skip any missed dosage that falls less than 12 hours from now; never double up on any medicine at one time.

What happens if I overdose?

Call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. Overdose symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. Breast tenderness may also be present, as well as drowsiness or vaginal bleeding.

What should be avoided?

Avoid getting Divigel 1,25 mg/packet into your eyes. If this happens, rinse your eyes with water. Wait at least 25 minutes after applying Divigel 1,25 mg/packet, before applying sunscreen to the same area. Smoking is harmful. Estradiol can increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, or blood clots. Avoid grapefruit products, as they may cause unwanted side effects. Avoid grapefruit products.

Interaction with other drug

It is sometimes not safe to take certain medications together. Taking certain drugs together can cause side effects and/or make other medications less effective. Estradiol can be affected by many drugs. These include prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. This list does not include all possible interactions. Inform your doctor of all medications you are currently taking and those that you will stop or start using.
