What is Sinex long-acting?

Oxymetazoline shrinks the blood vessels of the nasal passages. Nasal congestion can be caused by dilated blood vessels.

Sinex long acting (for the nose) provides temporary relief from nasal congestion (a stuffy nose) due to allergies or the common cold. This medication guide does not list all possible uses for sinex long-acting.

Side effects of Sinex long-acting

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat.

Sinex long-acting can cause serious side effects. Call your doctor immediately if:

  • Symptoms that persist or worsen;
  • After using nasal spray, you may experience severe burning or stinging.
  • Chest pain is characterised by a fast or irregular heartbeat.
  • Feeling short of breath, having a severe headache, or buzzing in the ears

Side effects of long-acting sinex include:

  • A mild burning or stinging in the nose
  • Sneezing
  • Runny nose

Sinex long-acting nasal spray is used to temporarily relieve nasal congestion due to allergies or the common flu. If you experience severe burning in your nose or persistent symptoms after using sinex long acting, call your doctor immediately.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to sinex long-acting, then it is best not to use it.

If you have any other medical conditions or concerns, ask your doctor or pharmacist whether it's safe to take the medicine.

How to take Sinex long acting?

Do not exceed the recommended dosage or duration. Use only the recommended dose and do not exceed it. If you use the medication for too long or too frequently, it may cause your nasal congestion to improve and then return. If your symptoms persist after three days of treatment, call your doctor.

You should not share your medication with anyone else, even if you both have the same symptoms. The virus can be spread by sharing a nasal spray.

Use the nasal solution (nose drops):

  • Blow your nose softly. Lean your head as far back as you can or hang your head from the bed. Place the correct amount of drops in your nose by holding the dropper above your nose.
  • Sit upright and gently move your head left and right. For a few moments, keep your head bowed forward while seated.
  • After using the nasal drops, avoid sneezing and blowing your nose.

How to use nasal spray

  • Blow your nose softly. Insert the bottle tip into one nostril while keeping your head up. Close the other nostril with your finger. Inhale quickly and spray the medicine gently into your nose. Use the spray on your other nostril.
  • After using nasal spray, do not blow your nose.

Use the nasal spray no more than twice in 24 hours. Do not use soap or water to wash the spray bottle tip. Store away from moisture or heat at room temperature. Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. When not in use, keep the bottle tightly sealed.

What happens if i miss the dose?

As soon as you remember a missed dose, take it right away. If your next scheduled dosage is coming soon enough, just skip it altogether. You should not take extra medicine to compensate for a missed dose.

What happens if i overdose?

If anyone accidentally swallows the medication, seek emergency medical care or call poison help at 1-800-222-1222.

Keep sinex long acting out of reach of children. Some nasal medications may cause serious medical issues in young children who accidentally swallow or suck on the medicine.

What should be avoided?

If your doctor prescribes any restrictions regarding food, beverage, or activity, follow their instructions.

Interaction with other drug

If you also take any of these drugs, ask your doctor or pharmacist whether it's safe to use sinex long acting.

  • An antidepressant—amitriptyline, clomipramine, desipramine, doxepin, imipramine, nortriptyline;
  • Ergot medicine—ergotamine, dihydroergotamine, ergonovine, methylergonovine; or
  • An mao inhibitor—isocarboxazid, linezolid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, and tranylcypromine.
