What is Carnitor?
Carnitor is a naturally occurring substance that is needed by the body for energy. Carnitor treats deficiencies in carnitine. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of carbenitor.
Side effects of Carnitor
If you experience symptoms indicative of an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing or swelling of lips, face, tongue or throat - seek medical assistance immediately!
Carnitor can cause serious side effects. If you experience:
- A seizure (convulsions).
Carnitor can cause the following side effects:
- Stomach pain;
- Nausea, vomiting,
- Diarrhoea.

Warnings
Please read and follow all instructions listed on your medication packaging or label, and inform your healthcare provider of all medical conditions, allergies and medicines that you use.
Before you take this drug
Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that Carnitor will be safe for you:
- Kidney disease (or dialysis if you have it);
- A history of seizures
- If you are taking a blood thinner (warfarin Coumadin Jantoven) and have routine "INR", or prothrombin-time tests,
A nitor should not harm an unborn child. Inform your physician immediately if you are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant. It is unknown if levocarnitine can pass into breast milk or if this could harm a baby who is nursing. Carnitor should not be taken while breastfeeding.
How to take Carnitor?
Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Take this medication only as prescribed. Do not exceed the recommended dosage or take it for a longer time.
Use the provided dosing syringe or a dose-measuring cup or spoon to measure liquid medicines. Ask your pharmacist if you don't have a device for measuring doses. You can take the liquid medicine alone or mix it with soft drinks or food. Slowly sip or chew the mixture. Carnitor can be taken every 3 to 4 hours at regular intervals. Take this medicine 30 minutes after eating a meal. You may need to have frequent blood tests while using Carnitor. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.
What happens if I miss the dose?
As soon as you remember a missed dose, take it immediately. If the next scheduled dosage is close by, omit this missed one to avoid overcompensating for it with additional medicine. Never attempt to make up a missed dosage by increasing doses in subsequent months.

What should be avoided?
If your doctor prescribes any restrictions or precautions regarding food, beverages or activity levels, adhere strictly to their advice.
Interaction with other drug
Levocarnitine may interact with other drugs, such as prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.Inform healthcare providers of any and all medications you are currently taking or plan on taking.
