What is Rimegepant?
Rimegepant, a prescription medication for adults, is used to treat migraines with or without aura when they occur, as well as to prevent episodic headaches. Rimegepant reduces migraine headaches, nausea, and vomiting, as well as light sensitivity and noise sensitivity, by blocking CGRP receptors. When taken to prevent episodic headaches, this medicine can reduce the number of monthly migraine days. Rimegepant, an oral disintegrating tablet (ODT), dissolves in your mouth and does not require water. The tablet dissolves quickly in the mouth, allowing it to be absorbed quickly into the bloodstream. Maximum blood concentrations are reached after an hour and a half.
Warnings
Rimegepant ODT is not safe for migraine headaches that last longer than 15 days. Rimegepant can be taken once per day, as required. Take no more than one tablet per 24 hours. Please follow all instructions on the label or package of your medication. Inform your healthcare provider about your medical conditions and allergies. Inform them which medicines you are currently taking. Do not hesitate to visit the nearest emergency department if you have taken too much ODT.
Before you take this drug
If you have an allergy to rimegepant, it is best not to use it.
Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that rimegepant will be safe for you:
- Liver disease
- Kidney disease (or dialysis if you have it)
Rimegepant is not known to harm an unborn child. Migraine can cause pregnancy complications, such as dangerously elevated blood pressure. This can result in medical problems for both mother and child. It is possible that the benefits of treating migraines outweigh any potential risks for the baby. Breastfeeding may not be possible while taking this medication.If you are concerned about potential risks, consult a physician. Rimegepant should not be used by anyone under the age of 18.
How to take Rimegepant?
Follow the instructions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Read all the instructions on the prescription label. If your symptoms don't improve or you experience more than 15 headaches within a month (30 days), call your doctor. Only remove the tablet when you're ready to use it.
- Open the blister pack with dry hands.
- Remove the tablet by gently peeling back the foil. The ODT should not be pushed through the foil.
- Remove the ODT from the blister and place it on your tongue.
- The ODT disintegrates in saliva, so it can be swallowed with no additional liquid.
- As the tablet dissolves, swallow several times.
- Do not store the ODT outside the blister pack for future use. The ODT should not be stored outside of the blister pack.
Store away from heat and moisture at a cool temperature.

Adult dose for migraine:
75 mg taken orally
Maximum dose: 75 mg in a 24-hour period
Comments:
This drug is not intended to treat migraines.
The safety of treating 15 or more migraines within a 30-day period is not known.
Use: To treat acute migraines with or without an aura.
Do not add liquid to the tablet. Place it on your tongue or under your tongue, and let it dissolve in saliva. Take no more than one dose per 24-hour period.
What happens if I miss the dose?
Rimegepant does not require a schedule of daily doses because it is only used as needed. If your symptoms don't improve after taking this medication, call your doctor.

Call 1-800-222-1222 if you suspect any poisonous substance has entered your body or for urgent medical assistance.
What should be avoided?
If your doctor prescribes any restrictions regarding food, beverage, or activity, follow their instructions.
Side effects of Rimegepant
If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy to rimegepant, seek immediate medical attention: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling in your face, lips, or tongue; swelling of the throat. The allergic reaction may be severe and occur even days after taking the medicine. Nausea is a common side effect of rimegepant. There may be other side effects. Interaction with other drug
It is sometimes not safe to take certain medications together. Some drugs may affect the blood levels of drugs that you are taking, which can increase side effects and make them less effective.
Avoid taking rimegepant for 48 hours after using any of the following medications:
- Aprepitant;
- Erythromycin;
- Fluconazole;
- Blood pressure or heart medicine. Diltiazem. Verapamil.
