What is Gabitril?

Gabitril can be described as an antiepileptic drug. Also known as an anticonvulsant.Gabitril is often used in conjunction with other drugs in order to manage the symptoms of partial seizures in children and adults who are at least 12 years old.Gabitril is also used for reasons not mentioned in this guideline.

Side effects of Gabitril

Seek medical attention immediately in the event that you exhibit symptoms that indicate an allergic reaction, such as itching, fever, swollen glands, painful sores in the area around your eyes or mouth, breathing difficulty, and swelling of your lips, face, and throat.

New seizures have been reported in a few people who aren't epileptic but take medications that treat seizures in a partial manner. Contact your doctor immediately if you are experiencing recent or more severe seizures.If you notice any symptoms that are becoming worse or more severe, tell your physician, for example, changes in your mood or behavior, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you are feeling angry, irritable, impulsive, or aggressive. active, restless (mentally as well as physically), or more depressed, or are contemplating suicide or harming yourself.Gabitril may cause serious side effects.Contact your physician immediately in the following cases:

  • Insomnia, extreme weakness;

  • Extreme skin reaction, fever, sore throat, swelling of your tongue or face, burning in your eyes, pain in your skin, and the appearance of a purple or red skin rash that spreads (especially on the face or the upper body) and can cause blisters and peeling.

Common adverse effects of Gabitril could include:

  • Fatigue, lack of energy;
  • Dizziness, drowsiness;
  • Nausea, stomach pain;
  • Being anxious or nervous;
  • Shaking
  • Difficulty in focusing.

Avoid this 

Gabitril could cause blurred vision and could cause problems with your thinking or reactions. Be aware when you drive or do any other activity that requires being attentive and able to clearly see.Consuming alcohol while taking this medication may cause unwanted side effects.

Interaction with other drug

If you take this medicine in conjunction with other medications that cause sleepiness, it could increase the effects. Consult your physician before taking Gabitril together with a sleep pill, an opioid pain medication, a muscle relaxer, or medication for depression, anxiety, or seizures.Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are currently taking and any new medications you begin or stop taking, particularly:

  • Medicine for treating the symptoms of a mental disorder;
  • Diet pills, stimulants, and adhd medications;
  • The narcotic drug
  • Other seizure medicines: carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone, and valproate.
