What is Dytan-D?

Diphenhydramine acts as an antihistamine. Phenylephrine works as a decongestant. Dytan-D, also known as a combination medication, is used to treat symptoms such as sneezing or runny noses, itchiness, watery eyelids, and sinus congestion that are caused by allergies, flu, or the common cold. Dytan D may be used in other ways not mentioned in this medication guide.

Side effects of Dytan-D

If you experience symptoms indicative of an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing or swelling to lips, face, tongue or throat - seek medical assistance immediately!

Dytan D can cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Severe sleepiness

  • Sleeplessness;

  • Urination that is painful or difficult

  • Fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeats;

  • Trouble breathing

  • Anxiety, nervousness;

  • A seizure;

  • Problems with speech or balance

Dytan-D side effects may include:

  • Dizziness, drowsiness, headache;

  • Dry mouth, nose, or throat

  • Nausea, vomiting, and constipation;

  • Blurred vision

  • Trouble sleeping

Warnings

Dytan-D should not be taken within 14 days after having consumed MAO inhibitors such as isocarboxazid (Linezolid), Methylene Blue Injection, Phenelzine or Tranylcypromine as this could result in potentially harmful drug interactions. MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid (Linezolid), Methylene Blue Injection Phenelzine or Tranylcypromine; follow all instructions when taking this medicine as excessive doses may cause heart conditions, seizures or even fatal overdosage - overdosage can prove fatal; never give this medication to children under 6 years or take any other drugs that contain diphenhydramine before consulting either your physician or pharmacist first as overdosage could prove fatal!

Before you take this drug

Dytan-D should not be used if MAO inhibitors have been taken in the last 14 days. There is the risk that dangerous drug interactions could occur.MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid and linezolid.

Have any of the following symptoms been plaguing you:

  • Chronic bronchitis, coughing up mucus or asthma, COPD, or smoking

  • Heart disease, high pressure.

  • Urination or prostate problems;

  • Glaucoma;

  • Diabetes;

  • A thyroid disorder.

This medication may contain phenylalanine. If you suffer from phenylketonuria, always read and follow any label on any medications taken. Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you're pregnant or nursing.

How to take Dytan-D?

Be certain to abide by all instructions on the label or from your doctor regarding cold and cough medicines, which should only be used temporarily. When giving these medicines to children follow all directions on the label as given on time can put sleepy children to bed safely. Never use cough or cold medicine to induce sleep! Before giving medicine to your child, consult a physician. Measuring liquid medicine accurately requires either the dosing device provided, or dose measurement tool (not spoon). If symptoms don't improve within 7 days or you experience fever, headache, cough or skin rash call your physician immediately and notify him/her if taking cold medicine may have played any part. Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture for optimal preservation conditions.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Dytan D is only used as needed. You may not have a regular dosing regimen. If it is almost time for your next dose, simply skip any missed one and wait.Never take two doses in one go.

What happens if I overdose?

Reach the Poison Help Line immediately on 1-800-222-1222 if experiencing poison exposure and seek emergency medical help if symptoms appear. A diphenhydramine overdose can be fatal. Overdose symptoms include confusion, drowsiness, and ringing in the ears. Other symptoms are dry mouth and eyes, dilated pupils, rapid heartbeats, tremors, agitation, or hallucinations.

What should be avoided?

Be careful before driving or engaging in dangerous activities without first understanding how Dytan D will impact you - failure to do so could leave you incapable of reacting effectively and could leave you susceptible. Before using any other medication that contains diphenhydramine, consult your doctor or pharmacist. You can use medicines to treat sleep problems, allergy symptoms, or skin itch.Overdosage with diphenhydramine may result in an overdose. Alcohol consumption can have side effects when taken with this medication.

Interaction with other drug

Before using Dytan D with other medications, ask your doctor or pharmacist. This is especially important if you are taking drugs that cause drowsiness, such as sleep medication, opioid medication, muscle relaxers, anxiety medicines, or seizure medicineInforming your physician of all medicines taken and those you have recently started or discontinued using is essential for staying safe and well.
