What is Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and vonoprazan?

Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and Vonoprazan (Voquezna Triple Pak) are combination medications designed to prevent stomach ulcers in adults triggered by an infection caused by Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).Clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and vonoprazan could be used for other purposes that are not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and vonoprazan

Seek medical attention immediately when you are experiencing symptoms that indicate an allergic reaction (hives or breathing difficulties and swelling in your throat or face) or an extreme skin reaction (fever or burning eyes, sore throat or skin pain, or the skin is red or purple with peeling and blisters).Get medical attention in the event of a serious drug reaction that affects various parts of your body. Symptoms may include an itch and fever, swelling of the glands, muscle pains, abnormal bruising, severe weakness, or yellowing of your eyes or skin.

Clarithromycin, amoxicillin Clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and vonoprazan could have serious reactions. Consult your physician immediately If you notice:

  • Extreme stomach pains; diarrhoea that is bloody or watery (even when it happens months after the previous dose);
  • Liver issues: swelling at the midsection area, stomach pain, a loss of appetite and dark urine, yellowish stool, jaundice (yellowing of the eyes or skin);
  • Kidney issues: swelling, less urination, and feeling exhausted or tired; or
  • New or worsening signs new or worsening symptoms of myasthenia gravis that are not yet apparent or worsening—weakness in the eyes, muscle drooping eyeslids, blurred or discoloured vision, difficulty swallowing, and impaired speech.

Adults who are older may be more sensitive to the effects of this drug.

Common adverse reactions to amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and vonoprazan could be:

  • Changed sense of taste
  • Diarrhoea;
  • Vaginal irritation or discharge
  • Headache;
  • Stomach pain;
  • Intense headache with blurred vision and pain in your neck and ears.

Warnings

Inform your doctor about your other medications. Certain drugs shouldn't be taken with amoxicillin, clarithromycin, or vonoprazan.

Prior to use this drug

Do not take amoxicillin, clarithromycin, or vonoprazan if your body is allergic to amoxicillin, clarithromycin, vonoprazan, or similar medications such as:

  • Azithromycin, erythromycin, and telithromycin;
  • An antibiotic penicillin, which includes ampicillin augmentin, principen, timentin, and trimox; other penicillin antibiotics
  • A cephalosporin antibiotic like cefdinir, cefprozl, cefuroxime, cephalexin, duricef, omnicef, cefzil, keflex, spectracef, and others

Amoxicillin is not recommended for use with clarithromycin or vonoprazan in the event that you have a history of cholestatic jaundice or liver issues from previous usage of clarithromycin.

Certain medications should not be used in conjunction with amoxicillin, clarithromycin, or vonoprazan. Your treatment regimen may be altered when you are also using:

  • Rilpivirine-containing products;
  • Pimozide;
  • Cholesterol-lowering medication like lomatide, simvastatin, and lovastatin;
  • Ergot alkaloids;
  • Colchicine (in those who suffer from liver or kidney problems).

Speak to your doctor if you were ever diagnosed with:

  • Kidney or liver disease;
  • Myasthenia gravis.

Amoxicillin Clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and vonoprazan can cause harm to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor that you are expecting or planning to become pregnant.It might be difficult to get pregnant if you're taking this medication.Don't breastfeed during the use of this medication. If you use an infant pump during this period, remove the milk and don't give it to your child for a minimum of 2 days following the last dose.

How to take Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and vonoprazan?

Follow the instructions on your prescription label, and review all medication guides and instructions. Be sure to use the medication exactly according to your doctor's instructions.Consume one vonoprazan tablet. 2 capsules of amoxicillin along with one clarithromycin tablet once each day (12 hours separated, between the morning and at night) and in a void of food over 14 days, or until your physician recommends otherwise.Continue to take this medication even if symptoms get better. Not taking your doses regularly can cause your illness to become more resistant to treatment. Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and vonoprazan do not treat viral disease (the flu or a common cold).This medication can alter the results of certain tests. Be sure to inform any doctor treating you that you're taking clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and vonoprazan.The use of antibiotics can cause diarrhea. Consult your physician if you are experiencing diarrhoea that is watery or bloody.Keep at room temperature, far from heat, humidity, and light.

Details on dosage

Usual adult dose for Helicobacter pylori infection:

Amoxicillin: 1000 mg taken orally every day, twice
Clarithromycin 500 mg, daily, orally, twice
Vonoprazan 20 mg, orally two times a day
The duration of treatment The duration of therapy is 14 days.
Use: in the treatment of Helicobacter pylori infections.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Take the medication as quickly as you are able, but do not take your missed dose in case you are more than four hours behind on the dose. Don't take two doses in one go.

What should be avoided?

Follow the instructions of your physician regarding any restrictions on your food, drink, or any activity.

Interaction with other drugs

There are times when it's not recommended to take certain medications in conjunction with other medications. Certain medications can alter your blood levels from other medications that you are taking, which can create side effects or render the medications less effective.Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and vonoprazan could cause serious heart issues. Your risk of developing heart problems could be greater if you are also taking certain other medications for infections, asthma, heart issues, high blood pressure, mental illness, depression, malaria, cancer, or HIV.

Discuss with your doctor your other medications, particularly:

  • Oral diabetes medicine or insulin (especially pioglitazone, nateglinide, repaglinide, and rosiglitazone);
  • A blood thinner – warfarin (coumadin, jantoven);
  • Probenecid;
  • Omeprazole;
  • Itraconazole.
